Komut Studio
Large scale 3D printing or recycled plastics
3D Printed Furniture
KOMUT, a French eco-responsible design studio based in the Paris area, produces zero-waste, durable and carbon-neutral furniture by utilizing a large ABB robot for 3D printing using recycled plastics. They particularly emphasize on using short supply chains, developing circular economy and ensuring 100% recyclability of their products.
The KOMUT 3d printed furniture is made directly out of the waste products of their customers, creating a cradle-to-cradle lifecycle for their wares.
Each product is locally produced around Paris, in the most environmentally positive way: zero waste, carbon-neutral, production on demand, and end-of-life recycling. 100% of KOMUT products are repurposed into new furniture. The diversity of raw material batches to recycle, and the technical aspects of its transformation result in slight color variations and 3D printing differences. To facilitate the recycling process and maintain responsible production, KOMUT avoids any additional post-processing of their furniture, such as varnishing, sanding, or other finishes. KOMUT has also developed a process to add micronised stone to their prints and increase durability while adding a subtle texture.
One of the major selling points of KOMUT’s process is the variety of forms that they can create, including vertical angles of 45°. Due to the nature of the process and their use of HAL Robotics software tools to program their machines, they can create unique parts on every run and cater to their clients’ every need.
KOMUT has been using our software to:
Thanks to the seamless integration of the HAL Robotics software with Rhino/Grasshopper, KOMUT was able to develop its furniture collection within months, becoming one of the first companies in France to commercialize 3D-printed furniture made of upcycled plastics.
